Seo-Jin’s Apology
Episode 7 of Penthouse Season 2 begins with Ro-Na’s funeral. Yoon-Hee is there already with flowers but Yoon-Cheol is pulled away by Seo-Jin phoning. She’s hysterical, claiming that Eun-Byeol is going crazy. As he heads off, Logan Lee appears and stops Yoon-Hee from killing herself. He tells her Eun-Byeol was the one who killed Ro-Na and how Yoon-Cheol is currently with her right now, hence his absence. Yoon-Hee is incredulous, eventually learning for herself that Yoon-Cheol paid off the piano player and sabotaged Ro-Na. Yoon-Hee immediately goes on the war path, phoning Logan and demanding to know where Yoon-Cheol is. Well, Seo-Jin and Yoon-Cheol decide to use an experimental drug to help Eun-Byeol forget everything. The side effects however are…yep, you guessed it – amnesia! Meanwhile, Dan-Tae meets Ae-Gyo, who happens to be Seok-Hoon and Seok-Kyung’s real Mum. She’s definitely not Su-Ryeon but apparently lived as her for 20 years. She has no affection for the kids either, and as they return home Dan-Tae takes Ae-Gyo out a secret exit to the parking lot below. The kids discuss Ro-Na’s death, with Seok-Kyung breaking the news to her brother that Eun-Byeol was the one responsible for killing Ro-Na. Yoon-Hee immediately heads to the hospital and notices Seo-Jin and Yoon-Cheol together. With murderous intent, she thinks about heading in and killing Eun-Byeol but she’s dragged away by Logan. Inside, Yoon-Cheol thinks twice and decides against staying with Seo-Jin. On the way out the doors though, he runs into Kyu-Jin who antagonizes him, claiming Seo-Jin was the one who killed Ro-Na. When Yoon-Hee awakens, he finds herself in Logan Lee’s apartment. They feed back everything they know, including the white dress and how Seo-Jin was in on this the whole time. The fire alarm going off is still a mystery though but Logan has another mission for her. He wants Yoon-hee to go looking for Ae-Gyo. He knows she’s in Korea too, and she could be the catalyst that changes the tide of this war. Eun-Byeol eventually heads home and greets Seo-Jin. She’s not in a very talkative mood though, and Seo-Jin finds herself pulling away from Dan-Tae too. She unenthusiastically greets him and agrees to go for lunch the following day. Eun-Byeol meanwhile, catches up with Seok-Hoon but he knows about her secret and how she killed Ro-Na. It seems like he’s trying to figure out the truth, and in order to do so he gets in a relationship with her. Suddenly news breaks online of Seo-Jin’s ghost singer, leading to an investigation and public outrage. Dan-Tae tells Seo-Jin she needs to take some time away from the company, at least to appease the shareholders. Seo-Jin however, knows that this is Yoon-Hee’s doing and refuses to leave. And just like that, Yoon-Hee rings and asks to meet in the theatre that day. The two trade verbal blows, with Yoon-Hee eventually telling Seo-Jin she needs to drop to her knees and apologize for everything she’s done. Seo-Jin surprisingly does this too, apologizing for taking the grand prize and slashing her throat all those years ago. On the back of this, Seo-Jin holds a press conference and announces to everyone that she’s going to retire. Dan-Tae watches from home and tells the kids he’s still going to marry Seo-Jin no matter what. Only, Seok-Hoon warns that he’ll regret this, thinking in his head that he’s going to destroy Seo-Jin before walking away. Well, Yoon-Hee already takes that first step, buying out the land in Hye-In’s name to prevent Dan-Tae from buying it. He’s irate but right now there’s not a lot he can do. With Seo-Jin’s career shattered into pieces, slimy Yoon-Cheol shows up and comforts her, realizing that he can’t go back to Yoon-Hee with his ex in such a state. At the same time, Yoon-Hee learns about Dan-Tae’s secret compartment and goes hunting inside. As she follows the winding corridor and secret entrance down to the parking lot, she runs into Ae-Gyo, who’s on her way into the penthouse.
The Episode Review
The latest episode of Penthouse lays off some of the dramatic twists and turns for a more straight forward episode of melodrama. Yoon-Hee now knows everything we do, with Logan Lee helping to fill her in on all the big plot points of this season so far. Now she’s on the war path – determined to get revenge for Ro-Na’s death. Seo-Jin’s redemption is nice to see, although obviously no one is going to fully trust or like this woman any time soon. Killing her Father is still a big point here that’s gone under the radar, but the public announcement of retirement at least tarnishes her singing career for the time being. At the same time, the episode introduces Ae-Gyo as a wildcard character, and hilariously as Seok-Hoon and Seok-Kyung’s real Mother. Hopefully we learn more about her in the coming episo0des as her inclusion feels a bit forced. Then again, this has really been the motto for a lot of this season! Still, the episode continues to deliver enjoyable drama and there’s lots of intriguing possibilities for the rest of the season.
