What is The Lazarus Project Season 1 about?

The story itself revolves around a man called George, who finds himself experiencing life in the heart of a deadly pandemic.  Right off the back of COVID, Mers-22 is spreading, causing the whole world to spiral out of control. There seems to be no hope… until George suddenly finds himself jumping back six months to 1st July. When George is approached by a woman called Archie, he’s recruited to join the Lazarus Project after being told he has a special “mutant gene.” This is incredibly rare and allows him to naturally experience these jumps without the aid of a special serum that the others are taking. Joining them in their operations, George finds himself whisked up in a heady adventure to try and stop global-level extinction events before they destroy the world. We have extensive coverage of The Lazarus Project on the site, including ongoing recaps for all eight episodes and a full season review. You can find those HERE!

Has The Lazarus Project been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Sky has renewed The Lazarus Project for season 2! Given the way this ends though, it’s great news for fans who may recall that the final episode ended with everything left on a massive cliffhanger. A new time loop seems imminent, Sarah has taken the serum, Shiv is alive – barely – while Janet has been somehow displaced in time. With a rival time machine, the future of the Lazarus Project is hanging in the balance. In an exclusive interview with Radio Times, the show’s creator and chief writer, Joe Barton, definitely has plans for a follow-up. “It’s something we’d probably explore more if we get further series [re. rogue agents],” Barton acknowledged. “And that idea of what the toll is on these people who do this thing. The origins of the Lazarus Project, including who financed the institute and its ability to rewind time, is also something Barton is keen to explore going forward. “We intentionally didn’t go too far above Caroline [Quentin]’s character [Wes] and it’s quite shady, but there’s questions of who’s pulling the strings. That’s definitely a big part of what a second series will be, if we get one.” The full article is well worth a read, so do be sure to check that out!

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Sky have only just green-lit a sequel. We’re still deep in the heart of time loop territory. The conflict with Big Boy may be resolved but these Chinese agents appear to be a whole different kettle of fish. We could be on course for an espionage adventure akin to Fringe Season 2 or something much closer to Travelers, where operatives jump back to save impending disaster. For now though, we”ll celebrate the news of season 2 being greenlit and see you guys on the next timeloop! Would you like to see The Lazarus Project return for a second season?
