A Much-Improved Sequel I wasn’t a big fan of the original Angry Birds. I watch a lot of animated films and whether it be with my kids, on my own or with friends, there’s something inherently breezy and simplistic about watching a feel-good animated flick. The Angry Birds Movie felt like a film released far too late in its lifespan; a cash-in to the games that arrived 5 years too late and failed to really generate enough excitement for its cookie-cutter story and forced jokes....
The Lost Children Episode 3 of The Barrier begins with the tunnel underground as police swarm the area and arrest all involved. Julia however, manages to escape capture and hides from the authorities as they swarm the tunnel. Believing she’s in the clear, an officer suddenly appears with a pistol pointed straight at Julia’s head. Pleading with the guards not to fire, they ignore her request but she’s stopped when Hugo arrives and saves her at the last second....

Puppetry Perfection The Dark Crystal is a film I remember watching as a child but couldn’t quite nail down all the plot beats all these years later. Having re-watched the film in preparation for The Dark Crystal’s prequel hitting Netflix, the film not only holds its own, it’s also a masterful example of scene composition and practical effects. Brimming with intricate world building, realistic effects and an easy to follow story, Dark Crystal is certainly a hidden gem from the 80’s; a film made with love and care that oozes charm during every minute of its run time....
